These hose guides sit approximatley 9" above ground. It is put into the ground about 6 inches deep. The middle area has a pipe that turns as the hose is pulled. As your hose goes around it, it uses the hose guide as a pivit to keep from getting hung up on your sidewalk, flowers, corner of the house etc. It also preserves your flowers!
